The Day Before New Years Eve ...

I can only imagine the many people that are looking to make their new years resolutions for yet another year. It seems that the theme of a new beginning is what draws people to looking back and thinking this year will be different.
What makes a New Year different from the Old Year that's about to slip away? I will venture to say there is no difference whatsoever except of course we will be writing 2010 instead of 2009.
You go to bed on December 31, 2009 and awake on January 1, 2010! What's changed? Your are still the same as you were when you went to bed right? Wrong!
Physically you appear the same but your thinking about your life has been challenged by thoughts like: "I know that this year will be different; I can make a difference; I am ready to take the plunge and rethink my options, goals, hopes, dreams etc.".
Only we can make a radical change in our lives. It's up to us; it always is up to us. We can become the people or person we are meant to be. Now that kind of thinking is power! I venture to say that 2010 will be your year of change if you decide it so. It's not the New Year that makes the difference it's you!
What about me? Well, since it is up to me to make those changes I had better sign off and rethink some things and perhaps I will post some of my thoughts throughout the year!
Happy New Year everyone!

Five Days Before the Year 2009

Happy New year from the whole gang! We're looking forward to the New Year. It's been real cold outside and we haven't been able to stay outside too long. This morning is a wee bit different it feels like a heat wave has hit. Well almost. People usually make all kinds of resolutions at New Year, but not us, no way. Dogs don't make any resolutions that would in fringe on our happiness. We are too self centred to allow our thinking of our selves as less than perfect. We like ourselves just as we are. I know that Angel is a little fat around the middle and Teddy needs a hair cut. You will note that his picture is an old one and needs to be updated; believe me he looks pretty fuzzy.

Angel has a birthday coming up in five days. Yep she was a New Years baby. She's going to be four years old, that's 28 in dog years. My birthday is on April  1st (I am no fool), and I am going to be nine years old, that's 72 in dog years. This explains the grey fuzz under my chin. Teddy had his birthday on November 11 he turned eight, that's 56 in dog years. So you see why would we concern our selves with resolutions. Life goes on whether we have them or not.

Our mom no longer makes them either. She says we can make resolutions anytime of the year why wait until January 1 to make changes in our lives. We are not included in the royal "we" as we are dogs. Now if we as dogs would make resolutions they would be in correlation with our self centredness

I am done with my pre-New Years chatter. Wishing you all the best for 2009.

Happy New Year to You and Yours,

Haida, Angel, and Teddy, and last and by no means least, Jaime (our mom)

Thoughts on New Year Resolutions

Seven days till Christmas and then New Years and all the hoopla that goes with that celebration. What springs to mind is the practice of New Year Resolutions ...

Personally, I don't have any this year, nor did I have any last year or the year before. Some people faithfully make resolutions every year.

I decided to Google "New Year Resolutions" and found the following article. It doesn't quote any particular source to qualify its statements, but nonetheless I thought it worthwhile quoting here. My source is Wikipedia.

New Year's resolution
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

A New Year's Resolution is a commitment that an individual makes to a project or a habit, often a lifestyle change that is generally interpreted as advantageous. The name comes from the fact that these commitments normally go into effect on New Year's Day and remain until the set goal has been achieved, although many resolutions go unachieved and are often broken fairly shortly after they are set.

Many New Year resolutions in the Western world involve maintaining peak vitality, physical fitness, or appearance. For example, one person's goal might be to reduce or to eliminate intake of alcohol, tobacco, or recreational drugs. The most common new year's resolution is weight loss. A student may make a resolution to stay focused in class or to complete all of his assignments. Resolutions to eat sensibly or increase exercise are also quite common.

More socio-centric examples include resolutions to donate to the poor more often, to become more assertive, or to become more economically or environmentally responsible. People may act similarly during the Christian fasting period of Lent, though the motive behind this holiday is more of sacrifice than of responsibility.

The new year resolution is one example of the rolling forecast-method of planning. According to this method, plans are established at regular short or medium-term time intervals, when only a rough long-term plan exists.

Well, what are your thoughts? Planning to commit to a New Year's resolution this year? If so, congratulations and more power to you to follow through for more than a week or two. Me, well I already stated that I don't plan on making any resolutions this year or any other year for that matter. But if I where to make a resolution or two it would be not too work so hard the last year of work and plan on spending more time getting ready for the next phase of my life, retirement.

Till next time, Cheers!
